Spiritual

A person likes to believe that he or she is the master of their soul. But as long as they are unable to control their moods and emotions, or to be conscious of the myriad secret ways in which unconscious factors insinuate themselves into their arrangements and decisions, they are certainly not their own master. – Carl Gustav Jung

Breathing techniques have been used in managing health, overcoming physical pain, working through emotional distress, and facilitating exercise. In all of these areas BreathWork have been shown to increase the impact of healing qualities, improving outcomes and shortening length of time of healing. For thousands of years we have found by changing the rate, ration, volume, and flow of the respiratory cycle, there can be experiential and perceptual shifts in consciousness, spiritual awareness, cognition, and self identity.

Breathing techniques have been used by ancient cultures around the world for eons in order to access spiritual connections in the self, for the purpose of deep insight and transformation. Restorative BreathWork that I provide for my clients therapeutically focuses on linking a deeper sense of connection with themselves, emotional empowerment through trauma release and transpersonal revelation through reclaiming and reintegrating split parts of the self.

Many people in this world move so quickly that they have abandoned the capacity to explore the hidden influences in their own being. In fact, one might say that we are in such a hurry that we are running from the experience of being intimate with who we are and what we have become. We are out of touch with who we are. “Breathing is truly the body’s most fundamental communication system.”  – Sheldon Saul Hendler MD, PhD. By placing ourselves in a sacred space for breathwork, we create the opportunity to be present with the stirrings of the soul, truths, pains, and un-faced emotions that live in the stress of our cells. Breathwork gracefully and gently puts us in touch with all that we have been avoiding.

Breathwork is the purposeful application of conscious connected breathing. Your 90 minute session will entail reviewing the purpose and application of breathwork, an assessment of your needs and goals for the session, a 60 minute facilitated breathing exercise, and a debriefing and discharge planning discussion afterwards.

How do I know if BreathWork is what I need?

Health Benefits

Reduces Anxiety: many of us are in constant, low-grade stress as a result of the modern world and we tend to breathe shallowly and quickly. Deep and conscious breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which stimulates your natural relaxation response.

Increase Clarity and Focus: Deep conscious breathing fully oxygenates the brain. Try three slow deep  focused breaths the next time you are going to make an important choice. Notice the clarity and ability to focus intentionally on the task at hand.

Detoxification: “The human body is designed to discharge 70% of its toxins through breathing. Only a small percentage of toxins are discharged through sweat, defecation, and urination. If you breathing is not operating gat peak efficiency, you are not ridding yourself of toxins properly.” -Gay Hendricks, PhD. Conscious Breathing

Elevates Mood: through noticing and controlling your breathing, you can create a consistent elevated mood throughout your day.

Feeds Healthy Cells: 1931 Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to Otto Warbug for the discovery that anaerobic diseases such as cancer cells, can not thrive in highly oxygenated environments. Conscious Breathwork allows the breathing to receive up to 60% more oxygen.

Skincare: Deep intentional breaths stimulates blood flow to the skin for a more radiant and natural glow, and helps prevent premature aging.

Promotes Digestion: A relaxed body supports proper organ functions in our bodys systems including digestion, elimination, and absorption.

Eliminates Oxidative Stress: Deliberate breathing delivers more oxygen to your tissues, and reduces risk of hundreds of diseases. “Insufficient oxygen means insufficient biological energy that can result in anything from mild fatigue to life threatening diseases. The link between insufficient oxygen and disease has now been firmly established.” -W. Spencer Way, Journal of the American Association of Physicians

Positively Influenced Gene Expression: Your genome is like the software for your body’s hardware. “The epigenome would be like the software that tells the computer when to work, how to work, and how much” Dr. Randy Jirtle. By telling your body you are calm, relaxed and safe, you are instructing it to operate accordingly, increasing your capacity to handle daily stressors in a new and centered way.

Reduce Cravings: Deep conscious breathing can avert the needs for an outside substance. Next time you want to reach for the soda/tobacco/sugar/alcohol/marijuana, take three conscious breaths and ask yourself if this is really what you need. Feel empowerment within and go from substances to substance.

Lowers Blood Pressure: Long, slow, deep breaths fully oxygenate the heart muscle. This reduces heart rate and blood pressure.

More Restful Sleep: Deep, conscious breathing is known to stimulate the pineal glad, which is associated with sleep patterns. You may notice more lucid dreams.
